Almost, Maine, a comedy by John Cariani who was nominated for a Tony Award for his supporting turn in Fiddler on the Roof, is coming to off-Broadway next month. The play will begin performances on December 15 at the Daryl Roth Theatre. Todd Cerveris, Justin Hagan, Miriam Shor and Finnerty Steeves will star, according to a production spokesperson.
In Almost, Maine, residents of a small, northern town are falling in and out of love at an alarming rate. Love is discovered, hearts are broken and mended in this midwinter night's dream.
The play was a popular hit when premiered it Portland Stage Company in Maine in the fall of 2004. That mounting featured Hagan, Ibi Janko, Lawrence Nathanson and Wendy Rich Stetson. Gabriel Barre, who staged the show there, will reprise his directing duties off-Broadway.
Almost, Maine is scheduled to officially open on January 12. The show will feature sets by James Youmans, lighting by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Brian Ronan, costumes by Pamela Scofield and an original score by Julian Fleisher.
